FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USTN in Nevada scores again: SNCAT public TV channel will broadcast “Sari Gelin” for several years to come
Starting last week, the Sierra Nevada Community Access Television (SNCAT) < http://www.sncat.org> in the state of Nevada has started the broadcasting of the 70-minute historical documentary film “Sari Gelin (The True Story)” <http://www.sarigelinbelgeseli.com/indexi.php>. The SNCAT receives its operating budget from the cities of Sparks and Reno. It has a viewer audience of about 65,000 in Northern Nevada. The “Sari Gelin” is aired on channel 16, debuting Wednesday night, May 6, at 9:00pm and being broadcast in its entirety until 10:10pm.
This latest grassroots effort is led and organized by the new Board Director and long-time activist of the U.S. Turkic Network (USTN) and the USAN, Dr. Bob Guneyi, M.D., who has previously spearheaded the successful first-ever effort of officially designating March 31, 2009 as the “Azerbaijani Remembrance Day” in Nevada by the Governor of the state. (read the March 31, 2009 press release, http://www.usazeris.org/usanpr34 )
The arrangements reached with SNCAT is to have the “Sari Gelin” video aired continuously two to three time per week at primetime (with at least one airing on a weekend) for a minimum of two to three years (possibly being broadcast for five years, with a maximum broadcast possibility of ten years). Therefore, it is possible that the important historical documentary will be aired continuously until 2019. The plan is to expand the area for broadcasting coverage by having more cable TV stations come on board and pick up the video for their programming, not only in the entire state of Nevada, but ultimately in all of the 50 states and territories of the United States.
Such an effort augments and takes to a new level the grassroots efforts by Turkic organizations through the country, educates the general public and helps bring better understanding and balance to the complex historical events of 1914-1920’s, when millions of Turkic and other Muslim people were massacred in Eastern Anatolia, South Caucasus and Northern Iran.
