The U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) has released its 2008 Annual Financial Report

On April 27, the U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) has released its 2008 Annual Financial Report to its members of the Board of Trustees. The USAN Trustees are those members, which have made a financial or in-kind contribution to USAN’s operating budget in the preceding months or years. If you are a USAN donor/trustee, and have not received USAN Annual Financial Report, please notify us at info[at]

The report summarizes the year 2008, when our members have sent out almost 60,000 emailed and faxed letters to their officials on state and federal level, and to the local and national media. 12 of USAN’s letters got published in newspapers across the nation in 2008. Hundreds of letters of responses were received from the members of Congress, some of which were very detailed and thorough, allowing us to make new friends on the Capitol Hill. Some of our members even received personal phone calls from members of Congress thanking them for their letters, support and activism. A Khojaly Massacre commemoration was done in the Congressional Record by a Congresswoman in California. Several members of Congress have joined the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus (CAC). Fundraising and political contributions were also spearheaded by the Directors and members of the USAN.

Our efforts and success culminated with a highly effective two-day conference in Washington DC at the George Washington University (GWU). The efforts of our community’s efforts through USAN were noted by analysts and media worldwide, generating reports and analysis from U.S., Europe, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. USAN has signed and reached agreements on cooperation with other

It should be also noted that USAN’s website quickly became top-ranked by all searching engines in many categories relevant to Azerbaijan,
Azerbaijanis and Turkic issues, receiving tens of thousands of unique “hits” from different countries around the world.

Furthermore, despite the overwhelming financial advantage of the Armenian lobby and propaganda, an organization such as USAN with its very modest budget made-up of contributions from grassroots, is able to keep up with them in many key areas. Consider, for example, the
Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) with its $22,5 million in net assets and $4,7 million in total revenues in 2007 (not counting its former affiliated organizations, like ANI and AGM, which have another $25 million in assets), or the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and its subsidiaries ANCA-WR and ANCA Endowment Fund, which also enjoy millions in annual revenues and tens of millions in assets.

We are committed to continue this success in 2009, and can confidently state that we will at least match the success of 2008 this year. But it would all depend on you, our members and supporters, since we are a true grassroots organization that completely and fully depends on the
activism and leadership of individual Azerbaijani-Americans. Please help us spread the word about USAN, to increase its membership and to send more letters this year than before.

Meanwhile, as USAN Board of Directors elections are underway this week, the Board will look different in the years 2009-2010, which will allow to bring a fresh new perspective and innovation to the Network, to keep it growing and progressing. We look forward to new Directors joining the USAN Board.
